I cannot resist saying that for the intake to leak air out rather than leak it in would require either forced induction or extremely messed up timing.
On a more serious note, it sounds possible from the description that you have an intake leak somewhere between the MAF and throttle body. This would cause an 'extra' intake sound and a lean condition as the ecu does not know about the extra air leaking in and does not add fuel to compensate. So it sounds like you're on the right track. Can you try to locate a leak somewhere? I dunno about the kade, but I've seen huge cracks on that rubber piece connected directly to the throttle body on more than one kae.
