weird engine light code today

hello everyone..quick story

98 altima

driving in a parking lot today and managed to go through a HUGE puddle (i hate doing that) and as soon as I got out of the puddle My check engine light went on. so I took it to auto zone and found it was

catalyst efficiency below threshold bank 1

went home to check the code on google..went back into my car to take it to my buddys house to see if the cat or o2 was loose and the engine light was off!

any idea as to why this happened? Cats and 02 are less then year old so I dont think its that..could it have just been the water getting up under my car which I know isn't good ?

the only guess work im gonna put out is that the o2 sensor that pertains to the cat must not be sealed properly, causing water to seep in... maybe it dried out before you got to your friends?

Most likely exactly what happened. It saw water/surge of fuel or something in the exhaust and threw the code that is basically saying "Somethin' ain't right in dat gon don area right thurr" lol.
