Weird coilovers problem

On the front driver side sometimes (it usually is fine and doesnt do this) but when I turn the wheel I can hear (and from looking at it see) the spring turn in the direction the steering wheel is being turned and then as the steering wheel is moved the opposite way the spring (as if tension is being released) pops back. It makes a booiinng sound. I have about a half finger gap between the coilover and rim/wheel so I dont think the they are touching... what could be causing this.

My first thought was that the tire might be grabbing the spring and turning it as the wheel turns....

The passenger side is fine and has never had this problem...

Thanks

I have the same pop// clunk noise on my car -- I guessed that it was my upper strut tower mount in the front -- busted bearings I would think -- so I have new ones in the mail -- if interested email me so ill let u know after this w-e if it solved my problem. ( otherwise I will forget)

Since the spring is held captive between the upper and lower mounts, and the only pivot point for the coilover is the upper pillowball, when you turn the wheel, the coilover assembly will twist along with the rest of the spindle.
