Okay, so I just bought some used Megan Racing Street Coilovers, and they have been making a weird noise. The noise sounds like its the spring moving slightly, and it's only coming from the front right. If this helps any, it sounds kinda like a ding or a pop, not neccesarily a pop but like pressure is being let off it. It also only makes this sound when going slow like turning out of the driveway and usually with the wheel being turned to the left.

Although I am hoping that I figured out the problem, which I think could be how the locking perch is set on the front right (The sound only comes from the front right).

I am new to coilovers, but to my knowledge, looking from the spring down to the last perch, it should be:1)Spring2)Perch3)Perch4)Threads5)Last perch

All of the coilovers look like this except for the front right one. This one goes:1)Spring2)Perch3)Threads4)Perch5)Perch

I was just wondering that if I set the middle perch just below the first perch, would it make this sound go away. If anybody has any other ideas, please chime in, and thank you for whomever may read this wall of text.

just tighten all the bolts down. if that doesn't work, then I would check your preload.

I tightned all the bolts down, and I'm not too sure on how to preload the springs. Could there be a such thing as too little preload, like if there was only one perch directly underneath the spring unlike all the other coilovers, which have 2 perches below the spring?

remove and see if spring has play. Its has its own upper mounts right? so the problem might be around there.

where the three threads are that bolt up to the car, that is the upper mount. also check where the spring sits to much play can cause clinking noises

Well I know they have pillow ball upper mounts. And one thing I did notice today when I had the front wheels off was that when I grabbed the front left coilover by the spring and turned it, it turned the whole coilover. But when I did this on the front right coilover (the problem one), it only turned the spring, not the whole assembly like the other.

yes thats the upper mount.First off the whole coilover shouldnt turn all the way around, because it should be bolted up to the knuckle Second try to adjust the hight of both front coilover higher and see if anything happens(yes i know a lot of work but thats what happens when you buy coilovers)

Move that last coilover collar so it's underneath the Spring seat (first collar). tighten all the spring seats and first collars so there is no vertical play on the spring but can still turn the spring SLIGHTLY.

That was my plan pandapants, although I couldn't really "feel" any vertical play by my hand. But I'm sure the load is magnified with the car on the ground. So if I were to just move the collar underneath the spring seat all the way up and tighten it against the spring seat it should be good? Thanks guys, I'm just a real noob to adjusting coilovers.

I'm not gonna read all this but I had the same popping noise.

Take your wheel off. If you can move the spring with your hand aka, if it's loose, there's your problem. The spring should be snug within the collars.

Probably the dude trying to adjust the height used the collars and not the thread "thingy" itself.

Lol, I don't know the word.

That sounds like it shouldn't be too hard. I will probably do that on Friday. But in the Evo forum they didn't specify what kind of grease you're supposed to use, what were you planning on using?Oh and also, I was noticing a rubbing sound just recently, and realized that it's coming from the tie rod. The outermost bushing looks like its not properly situated. Was wondering what could make it do that, and if I replaced the bushing would it make the sound go away? Thanks for all your help, I just don't want to have f****d up my tie rod because I put the coilovers on.

Your collars below the spring arent tightened down correctly and the spring is moving. Tighten them, and a drop of threadlocker wouldnt hurt. Now go fix it!

So you think that I should just try tightening it up, and then if it still makes the noise, I should lube the spring and seat up?But also, has anybody elses tie rod bushing moved out of it place a little when they installed coilovers?

unless the lower collar isnt tightened all the way, its the top clamp...the noise youre hearing teh the spring clacking around in the perch...tighten the two collars and you should be cool
