2006 Murano. There is a hand created cut (not a die/machine cut) in the carpet on the floor immediately in front of the passenger seat. The carpet is secured there with a few small velcro squares stapled to the carpet. The cut provides visual access to the VIN number stamped into the body metal under the carpet. Others have found the same thing. Anyone have any idea why this was done? WEIRD!

I know this is an old thread but I was wondering if everyone had this cut? I noticed it on mine this past weekend when I was cleaning it up. Anyone ever find out what its for?

I have an '09 but I've noticed my VIN all over the place as well. It's on the truck area twice I know. Both on the loading floor and then again on the underside of the hatch. It probably didn't make the redesign but I can check the passenger side carpet as well.

It just strikes me as odd to put a cut in the carpet just to show a vin number. If it is cut from stock that will make me feel a little better but if someone cut it I would like to know why... Thanks for looking..

That cut is for the VIN. I know on the '07 models and older there were some cuts in the carpet that were in very inconspicuous spots that allowed for the Satellite Radio pre-wire to run through.

Thanks Timmbo.. That is really a strange thing for a company to do but at least I know now that it was done by Nissan.

I just realized that in the original post it says that it is directly in front of the passenger seat. Mine goes from the end of the carpet under the dash half way down the floor. I will try to get a pic of it.. Its about a foot long of better.
