Weird back hatch issue ?

Did some work on my wife’s jx35 . Pulled the battery to replace the fan and thermostat. After I hooked the battery up the back hatch will only open when the car is running . I have already tried the disconnect the battery trick . Didn’t work . What else could it be .

Most of them will reset the controller if you hold the "Close" button on the hatch for several seconds. You should get an acknowledgement beep and then you close the hatch manually to complete the reset. If there are any DTC's in the controller, that erases them.

So do this with in the full open position? I tried that and it beeped twice . But didn’t manual close it . Will get it a try tomorrow

Doesn't need to be full open, but the controller will read whatever position it's in as "full up" and stop at that position thereafter.
