hey folks, i have a very worrisome problem. first off, i have an 89 coupe with s13 redtop sr20det. my mods are: 300zx fuel filter, walbro 255 fuel pump, fmic, ngk iridium heat range 7 plugs, 3" turbo back cat-delete exhaust and electric fan. i am only running stock boost at 7 pounds. so out of no where, this problem arises: car starts off accelerating fine(my tach is not working so ill try to explain the best i can...) then like mid-range my boost just falls out and then nearing redline it will spool back up-but throughout all of this, i can only boost to 4 or 5 psi. the car still idles fine, starts up fine(runs fine besides this). i checked for all vacuum leaks and have none. there is no excessive oil from the turbo and has absolutly no smoke coming from the rear. also, my timing is dead on. i hope someone can help me cuz this is annoying the crap outta me. thanks in advance. : bowdown

yes, it is working fine-as well as the blow off valve(although because of all this it is releasing early). thanks for the response and please keep the help coming...

hold on just a minute... inkslinger(or anyone else), i just went outside and took a look- should i be able to physically see my wastegate operating just while i have it in neutral revving it up at the throttle body?- if so, i didn't...

you wont see the wastegate moving until the pressure in the intercooler piping gets up to near 7psi, which you can't achieve with loads generated by neutral-rev's. I dont think it would be the wastegate actuator anyway since it only operates on pressure. if it suddenly closed when it shouldn't, you would get a boost spike.

Check around for boost leaks. tighten wormgear clamps, double check to make sure couplers aren't trying to slip off anywhere, etc..
