Hmm. . . Ever since the winter came around here in British Columbia, my S14 seems to go through a minor start up struggle while trying to turn it on.

This is what happens every time I try to start the car through out in the cold. I turn the key, and then the battery struggles for 2 seconds (sounds like it's losing power), and then BAM, the car starts up.

The weird thing is the fact that the battery has been purchased 2 months ago, and I don't understand why it's struggling (600cca). . .

So anyways. . . I called our fellow niconaught Asoomal, and I told him to listen to it, and I put my cell phone on top of the battery (so that he can hear it), and then I turned the car on (which it struggled way more, and barely started). After going back to the phone, I found the phone disconnected (as if I hung up on him).

I called him back and told him it shut off accidentally etc, and then attempted a second try. I tried starting the car, but for some weird a** reason, it wasn't even turning over. It was completely dead. . . So out of frustration and shock, I got out of the car, and went to grab the phone. This is what I found. . .

The phone was surging like a MOFO. . . The screen was turning on and off repeatedly for about 30 seconds or so. . . Right then, I knew the cellphone signals was interfering with the battery as if they were magnets or something. . .

So here's the BS. . . Now my car starts up perfectly (like it used to on warm summer days). Can you explain what might have happened to fix this problem? Maybe I need to change the battery now? Or what.

Let me know what you guys experience on winter months, and if you have any experiences/solutions on this weird event.

Thanks in advance.

Yea weird eh. . . It's like the battery sucked the juice from my cellphone, and powered itself up. . . But the question that is concerning me is, for how long will this last (before going back to the s***ty start ups etc)?

Is this a sealed VRLA battery, vented VRLA, flooded lead acid or flooded lead calcium battery?

my late night electrical engineering reply is that one of the poles of the battery ppb the positive one is not firmly connected to the wire, or the battery has a loose connection inside that is getting worse due to moisture (i.e. winter conditions). When you started up your car an arch (sp?) was created and that produced an electromagnetic spike. That spike affected the electronics of your cellphone, since probably they are only shielded for lower magnetic fields.

Have you ever driven close to a radio antenna park? The old radios would turn on by themselves.

the battery may had a paracitic draw on it some where during start up causing the weakness and as for the phone surging it may be EM interfherance caused by the starter. It may only be drawing 12 volts or so but it draws a lot of amps through those coiled copper wires in the motor causing a small EM feild.

Well, i just went outside right now to check it out, and it was a full moon. . . Anyways, there's no info on the top for giving the specifics on what you're asking for, though, maybe this will help. It's an MT-24 interstate battery with 600 CCA, which contains sulfuric acid.

P.S. Thanks a lot zenkistic and Shabbernigdo, you guys gave a very highly knowledgeable guess. But that doesn't explain how the battery got better. Just moments ago (when I went to check the battery's information), I test started the 240sx two times in a row, and the battery started up perfectly every time.

Some batteries types or more sensitive to cold.

Perhaps its time for a new and different battery.

New battery?? It is practically brand spanking new, just 2 months old. But then again, it ain't a different battery, just the same 2 month old haunted battery. . .
