I saw something Interesting while reading some of the posts in the RB engine talk area.

So I was wondering, does anyone know the weight of the motors that you can drop in a 240?

ie.SR20DETVG30DETTRB20 seriesSmall Block Chevy

and does anyone know the prices?

I'm not asking exactly for detail answers, just curious since I see so much talk on prices. This question is only for weight and the pricing of getting the motor and dropping it in the car itself with installation, no other mods, just the motor.

SR = 535lbs, $1800 - 3500VG30 = 586lbs, $2600 - 4000RB20 = 560lbs, $2000 - 3800SBC = 590lbs, $500 - 8000

All prices are as I have seen them. You may find them cheaper.

wow I thought that the VG would be one of the heaviest out of all the motors...

Has anyone tried putting a SBC in a 240sx? or will it twist the chasis?

BTW, is the SBC you put for weight a:307, 327 or 350? or are those just cci for the chamber I forget how they're measured.

what's an LT1? or rather, what does it stand for? Is it a specific engine? Won't the SBC twist the chasis?

and tino what do you mean? I don't really understand what you meant? I haven't read about weights and I was searching for information and couldn't find any.

Um... LT1 is an engine code for probably one of the most common small block chevy's out there.

Yes somebody has.... and I think that is what Tino was referring to.

Go up about four or five posts and look at Aries' signature. That is an LT1 350ci and it (o one similar to it) is presently sitting in his 240's engine bay. It does, infact, run the risk of doing damage to the flimsy little unibody chassis. But I believe he built some heafty motor mounts, and had the chassis reinforced in front. Not exactly sure though. If it were my project and money was no object, I'd apply the entire project to a tube frame and build around it. But that costs a LOT!!!

LOL, Maine! My 454 in an S13 project is getting a tube frame chasis.

The SBC project, my S14 with a Chevy LT1 in it is fully reinforced front to rear. These reinforcements will soon be for sale as a set, or indevidual units from http://www.limecreekmotorsports.com as a way to further the development of Nissan swapping :)

SWEET!!!

Do you have figures on the weight of the reinforcement? What kind of materials are used? Does this require an involved strip down... as in, do you have to take off the suspension and steering components to add the reinforcements, or does it bolt-on around them?

Hahaha.... 454 in an s13... you guys are the s***!!!! It is really nice to see the 240 getting this kind of attention. I wish you all the best and I want to come see the finished product... s13 or s14!!

Hey... my Mazda truck could use that 350..... interested?

EDIT:

ps..... your website looks pomising..... keep it up!:ylsuper

the reinforcement adds about 36 lbs, but it is spread out over the length and width of the car so as no to destroy the wonderful weight transfer we enjoy. All reinforcements either weld in or bolt in (both in some cases) and can be added with the car raised on a lift and all suspension intact.

Sorry if this is a repost, but what about the weight of the KA24(D)E? I found this on the web:

http://www.240sx.org/faq/artic...e.htm

But I don't see how that can be right if the SR20DET weighs 535lbs (with the KA24DE being an iron block and all...) Thoughts?

Mike
