as we all know our cars weight quit a bit. 2862 lbs to be precise(acording to http://www.edmunds.com). anyway, i ran into some guy that said he used to work on cars and he had told me that there is a support bar that is mounted inside each door that weighs 70lbs each. dont know if it is true or not, but our doors being so heavy, this might be true. i would like to reduce the weight of my car(w/full interior). is there any other parts that i would be able to remove to accomplish this goal? is there a popular 240sx.org popular weight reduction favorite?? any help will be greatly appreciated, and would save gas too, cause we all know gas is a mofo...

are you talking about removing the support bar inside the doors? i will tell you right now, that has bad idea writen all over it. there is a reason for that bar, and if you get rid of it a side impact could be the end of you. the weight reduction most people do involves removing the rear seats, sound insulation, and the tar-like substance that coats the bottom of the interior. replacing the hood with CF is fine too. there is also a CF hatch with a lexan rear window that will take quite a bit off your weight.

i lost my spare tire, jack, rear seats, all rear carpet, all the sound deadener(tar and what have you) Not the biggest weight loss but a substantial amount.

CF hood is my next weight reducer, along with a CF hatch if i find the money for it...also try some light weight wheels and the A/C(a/c is a heavy system)

The sound deadening is a huge amount of weight. Especially the piece on the fire wall which doesn't require lots of dry ice and bashing. Has someone weighed all of that stuff actually, I just picked up the trash bag that I had my stuff in and it felt like a good 30lbs or so? Oh, stock suspension also ways a crap ton compared to coilovers.

Weight no problem. If you dont need,or see it remove it, no cash spent and right at 2600lbs give or take for fuel. -fact-

If you're going to be using your car every day as a daily driver. I personally wouldn't recommend extensive weight reduction. If you want to shave 40-50lbs aside from everyone else's suggestions. Look into fabricating an aluminum rebar front and back. Or you can eliminate them completely.

there is NO WAY that this support beam weighs 70 lbs. the door itself doesn't weigh 70 lbs. trust me, we just switched doors on mine. it's not that heavy, i'd say 50 lbs. maybe a little more, and that's with the glass and motor.

Man you dug this one out of the grave. Why post to a 4 months old thread? C'mon Boy's the questions been answered. By now he's probably already put 15k into the car
