Hey guys. Just wondering if anyone knows how much the Q45 tranny weighs? I was over at the junkyard earlier today to pick up some interior trim pieces and asked the sales rep if they had a Q45 tranny just in case mine goes out soon. He said yes, a tranny from a '93 with 61k miles on it for $1,300. Doesnt sound all that bad, especially when rebuilds cost almost twice that much.

I went over to take a look at it but it was placed on a shelf about 3 stories high. This is all just hypothetical as I can't really afford it right now but I might need it in the near future. Can anyone tell me how much it weighs? I might need to leave it at my house and need to know if I need just another person to help or if i need a whole army. :D

We pay around $800-$900 for Q junk yard take outs delivered to our shop, you are paying just a little less than the dealer pays for a factory reman unit [roughly $1500].

Always a gamble since at best you get a 30 day warranty for your 300 pounds.

Yard prices are typically half of list and then some small discount to the trade and something based on your volume of purchases just like any other business.

Yeah, I think I would want to check the fluid first. If it's OK, then proceed to a pan drop and check the filter like Dennis suggests.

Then you might know if you are getting a decent deal at $800.

However, if it is bad and you can get a steeper discount, it would be good to have a core for a Level 10 rebuild!

If I recall, it was 273 pounds...INCLUDING the black plastic shipping 'coffin'...

For 1300 you're being foolish IMHO... Add 400 and you've got a new-rebuilt from Scottsdale...

PS Anybody looking for a level 10 rebuild, just post here and I'm sure one of the folks swapping trannys will let you have their used one for whatever the core charge is... I didn't care if I sent mine back to Joe or to someone else!

$400 max.

Being in exactly the opposite position, I have a Level 10 PTS3 rebuild in my failed 91, and a dealer installed rebuild in my 90 with about 46k. I'd like to swap them and then sell the Nissan rebuilt (to a NICO member). I have driven this trans about 2k miles and have noticed nothing out of the ordinary. Dealer records show a flush after 30k miles. No trans cooler, just the in radiator setup.

Any member who is interested may email me, and make an offer. I'm in Maryland, so a pickup at my local shop or a delivery would have to be arranged.

If you are shipping big items (like trannies) the costs for trucking are usually quoted at .80 to 1.10 per pound (this is 1000 miles ).

(Additional mileage (or less) changes the cost, but it is not strictly proprotional. Once they have it on the truck, driving it another 500 miles is not much more.)

HOWEVER, if you have a commercial account the costs drops considerably. Like HALF. Cost me $100 to send 253 lbs from CA to AZ. Original quote was $210.

If you buy from a dealer (like Scottsdale) it will pay to see if they can arrange for the return shipping on their account. It also pays to drop it at the nearest freight terminal and not have them drive out... depending on your daily travels and ability to haul, I suppose.

Just FYI

Little known FACT - Check http://www.ForwardAir.com to see if they have a location near you. About half the price of UPS shipping, and there are several locations. I shipped Qship's wheels that way - Best for heavy stuff as there's a $45 minimum charge.
