hey im looking for an old 240z to restore, and partially " modernize" brakes suspension and some stuff like that. i was wondering if anyone knew the weight split f/r on an early 70 to mid 70s Z. the reason im asking is because i have a rb25det the needs a home, and 240s have gotten way too common these days. dont get me wrong, i still love them and would buy another one, but well i want a car thats special. i was recentally inspired by a 240z that is for sale on the nico boards, its painted silver, needs an exterior and comes with a blown l28 turbo motor. unfortunately i dont have anything close to his asking price, so i am searching for my own to restore. since the stock motor in a Z is a straight six, i figure getting the motor in and situated shouldnt be too hard, nor add too much weight, say maybe 100 lbs max. but im wondering if i should fabricate some mounts so the motor sits lower and more rearward, sort of like a the mc kinney mounts for a rb swap intoa 240sx. sorry about the long post and only constructive comments please.

The stock weight disribution is something like 52/48 on the 240z if I remember right. The last time I weight mine it backed that up.

the stock ballance on the s30 is supposed to be almost 50/50, the rb's have been swapped into the s30 chassis enough plenty of times, the easy way to put an rb in is to use the rb20 mounts oil pan and pickup tube, this I believe still requires minor clearancing of the oil pan or the crossmsmber, the more popular method is again with the rb20 pan and pickup, but fabricating your won mounts to move the engine down and back a bit as the rb mounts place the engine high and forward, I don't think you'll find much weight gain except for the transmision as the trannies taht came bolted to the l6's were pretty lightweight and not known for their strength, of course any way you go the driveshaft and trans mount will be custome or at least modified and made to fit, there were a coupla of people that made and dold the mounts some time ago, I believe mckinney was one of them I have no idea if they are still available as it's not a real popular swap wiht the l6 having such great potential, I personally find the rb to be overpriced but if you got one by all means put it to use

yeah. like i said it was supposed to go into a 240sx. but theyre uber common now and i want something more .. classic. you mentioned the rb20 mounts and oil pan, why would i use them instead of the rb 25 mounts and oil pan that came with the motor...? im assuming clearance issues you discussed, but there has to be some wat to fab mount brackets to clear the cross member, isnt there?

I believe the rb20 is the only one that used the rear sum oil pan which si why it's oil pan is the one to use, and half of the rb s30's use the rb26 which requires changing or modifying the oil pan is it's got halfshaft that goes through it, the motor mounts to use are the ones intended for the zr200, the z31 chassis that came with the rb 20 has a silimar crossmsmber and the moutns will actually bolt in they just don't put the motor in the optimal location
