Weighed the car today...LS14

V8 240sx? Sure! If either the chassis OR the engine is non-Nissan (i.e. SR20 in an RX-7 or LS1 in a 240sx), we've done it.

Went to the scales today w/ a couple other 240s. Just wanted to disprove any misconceptions that an LS1 weighs a ton just because it's a V8 and will throw off the balance of the car (which is 52%/48% from the factory).

Was hoping for better results, but really not too bad when all the details are laid out.

Weighed in at 2830 lbs. w/ LS1/T56 setup, full stock leather interior, sunroof, OEM hood and trunklid, full sound deadening and carpet, all power options except antenna, and 3/4 of a tank of gas. Also running 17 x 8/17 x 9 wheels with 275 Nitto Drag Radials. That weight is w/out me in the car. The other S14s were all lighter...mostly stockish w/ KAs and smaller wheels, but all manual as well. They had me from anywhere between 90 lbs. to 40 lbs. so really not too bad.

I did take out the spare, jack, carpet in the trunk, front bumper support, A/C, blower fan, heater core, windshield wiper reservoir, and I have a carbon fiber driveshaft. Other than that, nothing has been done to reduce weight.

As has been stated before, the LS1 and KA are pretty close in weight, but the T56 is heavier than the KA transmission. I would say I picked up some weight there and maybe just a tad up front. But, that was offset with the battery and fuse box moved to the trunk and the removal of the front bumper support, A/C condensor, jack, and spare I believe.

Thanks for the technical info, Chris. I've followed your build and am really impressed with the thoroughness of your swap.

If I go to NOPI, your car will be one of the very few reasons I attend.

Keep up the good work,Chris

Did the swap change the handling of the car?How fast is it?So you have any idea on the value of the car now?I am thinking of doing the same swap, but was wondering all of these things.

Also, can you tell me what pitfalls you ran into, and wht to watch out for.

As stated above, the weight is pretty much the same as it was stock, so handling is just like it was w/ the KA.

Haven't had it at the track, but it's pretty quick.

The value of the car is whatever somebody is willing to pay for it.

There are a lot of complications to the swap as compared to an SR, but nothing terrible. It's just a lot more work.
