Well this week has been adventurous to say the least. Dove into replacing a few leaky seals and double checked timing and compression which results are much improved (carbon build up over the years) , went well till it got back together. Got it back to together and running and gave it a blip of throttle and the water pump shaft broke and the fan destroyed the shroud and belt, went got a new pump, got it on an buttoned up and then went for a test drive and that shaft broke at 3500rpm.. now new pump is on its way.. will keep updated on pump failures lol

Sounds like my week. 92 2+2 automatic. Trans has been acting strange, hard shifts, downshifting for no apparent reason. Ran trans self diagnostics all clear. Checked solenoids with multimeter all good. Checked TPS it was.22 v reset to .45 took it out and no more downshifting out of the blue and running great. Called Trans shop and said it appears I fixed it. Took it out yesterday starts down shifting, even slipping. Called Trans shop back taking it in Tues. The transmission was replaced about 8 years ago with a brand new Nissan unit, not rebuilt. Only has about 30k miles on it. May be torque converter, we will see. Trans guy has worked a lot on these transmissions so that is a good thing.

This car takes all my money, I get pissed, then I look at it and want to get it going again because it's so much fun to drive.....I must be an 300zx addict, I need another fix!

sounds like an auto problem in general, should convert it to a turbo 400 trans, stronger and better built

Rechecked fluid temperature sensor and it appears to be malfunctioning. Maybe just maybe.

Trans shop ran diagnostics on the car, he said trans is fine it is either a bad TPS or harness problem. I hooked up the old multimeter up to the TPS and it was reading .69 at idle. I just reset it a few days ago to .45. I got my handy small rubber mallet out and lightly tapped it and the voltage started jumping all over the place. Got new TPS on order, we will see.

And the TPS was indeed bad. Was not throwing a code but was working erratically. I replaced it and the car drives as if it were new.

damn man, that sounds rough, my adventures still continue with mine, as i might be on to another water pump, this current one is holding up well to abuse, but im trying to get pretty much a new cooling system lines out (electronic fans, and new crank pulley and water pump pulley), then im gonna be putting a full new exhaust on it, as well as, a new clutch, flywheel, and a new drive line. kind of hopefully all at the same time, just to ease on labour cost.. lol ouch. but i am getting some seat brackets modded so i can put in some rad (ish) after market leather bucket seats.

Not a chance!
Like any newer car they age and things wear out, plus the Z32 is ripe for even "normal" modifications that all make it better, and last longer.
I'd bet the average Z32 guy who has one for more than 5 years has $10K in it easy, or more (gulp) like me...

Hahaha, I figured not, but I can always hope right?? Lol so far it's just got a pod filter an a axle back. I just plan on simple tasteful mods, currently abandoned hope on major stuff. Just rather get it looking and performing good with out falling apart.

I was able to accomplish that feat in less than a year.

I'd tend to agree and surely that's what would have to be the case running electric fans. Generally it's the clutch fan failing and the excess work needed to turn it that ruins the water pumps anyway, so it should not hurt the pump at the least.

I hear that...my engine rework and install of all my goodies was 10k+, and we haven't even hit body repairs (3k+) and installing all of my exterior bits. I already had about 6k in it before the accident too, so like you know, the bill can hit hyper-drive in an instant for our babies once you are already "all-in"...

Alright awesome haha, I'll be doing the electric fans here soon I think, just cause its only being kept cool by a shroud less clutch fan. Just so it would be ready to tackle anything next year lol anyone ever run the unorthodox crank pulley??
