So I'm putting new speakers into the door and they dont fit into the factory plastic holder thing and I was wondering how I should go about protecting the speaker from the water that can sometime find its way into the door.

I was thinking about just putting a gallon ziplock bag behind it but I feel like that will jack up the acoustics...

Any ideas?

Those seem like they would do as much good as just a ziplock bag unless somehow they are waterproof and breathable... Am I right?

Just a thought. I would rather not spend $12 and shipping and wait for it to get here for something that will work as good as a 5 cent plastic bag.

If I'm mistaken please let me know.

Using a plastic bag is one of the dumbest ideas iv'e ever heard.Read the link they repel moisture but also help dampen vibrations and hold out dirt and mud.I'd love to hear a plastic bag. Stop now and consult a professional.

Directly from Crutchfield installation guidehttp://www.crutchfield.com/S-I...age=7

"A vehicle endures all weather conditions — wet, dry, hot, and cold. That means your speakers must, too. Moisture causes speaker damage. If you find your speaker performs poorly in certain weather conditions, you may try a set of speaker baffles. These soft foam surrounds not only seal out moisture, they also protect the speaker against dust and dirt, and block road noise at the same time. If your speakers perform well, you can still use speaker baffles to prevent future environmental damage."

Sounds to me like the baffles work two fold: better sounding and weather proofing. All I am looking for is the weatherproofing. So why is using a ziploc bag to protect against the dirt/debris/water such a bad idea if thats all I am worried about?

As long as it doesn't make it sound worse, I still think its a pretty decent idea. Any other suggestions?

Get some marine speakers if you are concerned about the elements getting to them.
