Weather stripping questions?

ok guys well ima start to get ready to paint my car. Starting to do body work tomorrow witch is not that much but i have some question on the weather stripping. I have a coupe. How hard is it to remove the weather stripping on the side windows and the front and back with out damaging them? and also when removing the side weather stripping can i reuse the same ones again?

you want to remove the glass completely? are you talking about the quarter glass or doors?

i dont wana take the window off just the weather striping around the quarter glass.

hmmm I don't think that's possible, if I remember correctly when I pulled the rear interior panel.

The seal around the glass is solid sealant, I think the pieces you're talking about are sandwiched between the body and glass.(pic off another thread)but I don't know for sure, I haven't done mine yet

so to take out the weather striping i need to take out the whole window? hmm.. i might just go to a pick n pull and take that window out see how hard it is before i try it on mine

There ya go, good luck finding a 240. if you figure it out, post it so we can see. I have searched and haven't found a decent answer.

Uh, you guys didnt look very hard if you searched, there is a writeup on how to remove and replace 1/4 glass windows.

im not trying to take the window off just the main part. alot of time i seen when i car gets painted with the weather stripping on after a while it start to chip from right there because the clear dose not get underneaths the weather striping i was asking if i could take the one i have on and reuse it again not to take out the window complete

the door weatherstripping comes out fine, its simply screwed in. all the rest will have to be removed and replaced, and its a ***** to remove, believe me, i did it

yeah so what from i seen just to put it back on all i need a window sealant? any body know were to get new weather striping besides OEM which is fu-cking expensive

That and that's for a Hatch, even though its still quarter glass, Its very different.The Hatch is a whole section panel basically. the coupe has the glass and weather strip sandwich, but yeah either way you'll need new weatherstrip. If you have a ton of time on your hands you can do it yourself, if not have someone do it for you.

just thought of something also, I want to repaint my car, and I don't need the quarter glass. No one sits back there so what about taking it out and putting a piece of sheet metal and brace it up a bit. Smooth the outside and putty it, sand it, paint it and see how that looks?
