Dude don't talk to me like I am some 16 year old kid who just popped out of his moms basement. I am 24 years old, I can make my own damn decisions and have my own opinion.

Is my statement REALLY that ignorant? States make the seatbelt law to make extra income off the tickets...is that so far-fetched? They know damn well many, many people don't wear them and it's another way to screw us out of more money. Now I am definitely not one of these people that has the mind state that I am "being held down by the man" all the time, most laws out there are very much needed. Many ways of law enforcement are also needed, such as the cameras used to get speeders and people blowing traffic lights.

Ever think the law might also exist to lower the cost of health care for the rest of society? What do you think happens when an uninsured driver isn't wearing a seatbelt and gets in a wreck? Who foots the costs of the medical bills?

Un-insured motorists, wow, that's another issue. Really pisses me off.

Hey well it's not going to be different now, we will be footing peoples health care bills anyway. That's another topic for another thread.

I will probably never wear my seatbelt on the regular, ever. So flame me all you want, but that's just my choice. Believe me, seatbelt laws in many states are not for safety, but just another thing to make quota on.
Yeah! Don't wear my seatbelt so that when I get a ticket for not wearing one, I get to b**ch about it! Yeah! You're exquisitely dumb for saying this. Yeah the ticket is there for them to make money off of, but to not wear it and blame the gov't is fool hearted. If it wasn't a law, then you wouldn't be saying what you said, and instead you'd say, "I don't wear my seat belt because car companies charged me for it in the price of the vehicle."

FYI - Ejected people from vehicles can also cause accidents because your dead or seriously injured dumba** is in the middle of the road and people swerved to miss you and cause more accidents. Lets see how you feel if you're ejected from your seat, land in the middle of the road and another driver swerves and takes out an innocent person, kills them, and YOU survive to tell the story.

Actually, if something like that happens, I hope you're charged for murder and serve time.

Here come the goofy what ifs. I don't wear my seatbelt because I don't want to, not because I'm "sticking it to the man". You people are real thick headed on here tonight huh.

I don't do drugs, not an alcoholic, don't cheat, not a pedoph:le or murderer, but I don't wear my seatbelt, please give me the chair because I am a dreg of society. Give me a break.

I have a 4 point harness too, i bolted it in the easy way (wrong way) until I saw a video of what happens when you do that so I spent the time and actually installed it correctly. My rear passangers arnt to happy about it though

I don't see why you're giving the guy such a hard time. If he doesn't wanna wear a seatbelt thats his problem, as are the consequences. If he chooses to have his head bash into the steering wheel/windshield/pavement (when he gets ejected) thats his problem.

And if/when that happens you can all point and say "we told you so", or "another bites the dust" depending on how morbid or evil feeling you are.

I always wear mine, and so does everyone that rides with me. It's a personal choice. Even if I don't agree with not wearing them, I'm not gonna give Timay a hard time. There are no seat belts on motorcycles, ATVs, or golf carts and all of them are perfectly legal to drive on the streets.

I always wear my seatbelt. Just like most of the people in this thread, it feels weird to not have it on, or it not being on tight.

When I was 19, I was in a head on collision in which I was wearing my seatbelt and the other driver was not. We were both traveling at approx 55 mph. I walked away from the crash that night and went home to bed, the other driver was ejected from his vehicle and got a nice hospital stay and a few major injuries but survived. I never used to wear mine, but now I always try to.

Sub note to that story: The kid that hit me was also a drug dealer. And after the he was released from the hospital, he was stabbed in the face and killed 2 weeks later in a deal gone bad in a motel down the street from my house.

One of my best friends in high school drove a Miata. One day she was hanging a curve on a backroad, hydroplaned and smacked a tree. Her passenger didn't make it. She was so busted up, they couldn't even donate her organs.

I suppose that may happen, but I dunno if I witnessed a car crash right in front of me, I'd be trying to get out of the way already regardless of whether or not the body flew off another 10 feet.

So, sure if you feel that much about it flame him all you want. He isn't gonna care though.

Timay, you realize if you get into an accident before June and get far more seriously injured because you didn't wear a seatbelt, you'll crush Nala as he won't have a prom date.

As far as the seatbelt laws. The law is not an agency money grab. It's a insurance expense reducer.
The facts are obvious: your car crash survival chances dramatically improve and injuries trend less severe if you simply wear your seatbelt than if you don't. You would think common sense would make such a law unnecessary. The fact that people choose not to wear their seatbelts despite common sense dictating otherwise is disappointing.

You know what annoys me 10,000,000,000,000 times as much as seatbelt laws?

Seatbelt reminder chimes.

I wear my seatbelt anytime I'm in a car. It's a subconscious action to put it on. But I don't always put it on the SECOND I turn the car on. Especially in the winter. I DESPISE having to listen to whatever manufacturer-specific aural irritant a given car may have for several seconds before being able to concentrate again. I'll put my damn belt on in a minute. And you know what? Timay still won't. So what the hell's the reminder chime for? I know people who just leave their seatbelts wrapped around the backs of their seats but still buckled in order to get rid of the chime.
Fords now come with a "feature" called "Beltminder" which not only dings at you when you start the car and haven't yet put on your belt, it also dings at you again every few minutes until you actually put the belt on. Yeah, that's what we need. Obnoxious dinging while we're driving down the road trying to concentrate. SAFETY FIRST! It's so misguided it's amazing.
It is possible to disable the Beltminder "feature" but it requires a convoluted procedure involving repeatedly buckling and unbuckling the seatbelt a certain number of times within a certain amount of time. I disabled it on my car because, quite simply, if I'm ever not wearing a seatbelt there's a good reason for it.

Laws are one thing. But last I checked it's not my car's job to tell me how to live or even drive. It's my car's job to STFU and do as it's told. Beltminder pisses me off so much it almost makes me NOT want to wear my seatbelt out of spite.

Driving is a privledge - NOT a right. Therefore, you follow the rules of the road. Simple. No "I don't wear it because I think it's wrong!" garbage. You don't walk onto Agusta National and start hitting golf balls with a baseball bat, do you? Seat belt laws are there for a reason and are not open to interpretation. And trust me - everytime I review an auto account and I see seat belt violations on your MVR, I think loooooooooong and hard about if I should dump you as a client.

FWIW if it wasn't for my seatbelt, I would have probably gone straight though my windshield when my car was rear ended by someone going 45 (and I was at a dead stop at a stop sign). My car had to be rewelded, and the other car was basically totaled. I wouldn't be posting if it wasn't for my seat belt.

Thats not what I'm saying man, and its not like not wearing a seatbelt makes you any less of a person  I just think its kind of ridiculous to not wear a seatbelt because everyone puts so much importance on it, which sounded like what you were saying.

No seat belt? You rebel. I bet you remove those "do not remove" stickers off mattresses too (j/k). It's obviously your choice to disobey the seat belt law and not wear them. It's your life and money. But If you ever do get a seat belt ticket, please don't whine here and blame the cops for giving you the ticket. It's akin to Nala whining about cops ticketing for too dark tail lens after he was warned.
