Inspired by a road rage thread, I was left to wonder if any of us A/C drivers keep weapons in their cars. When I say weapons I mean anything from baseball bats to firearms. Its not a bad idea to keep something for self defense.

Personally, I have nothing. Unless you'd consider a breaker bar. I've also heard of people getting those huge flashlights for self defense.

So, what do you guys have?

well i don't have anything in the car, i just use the car as the weapon you kno

you don't have to put it anywhere cause it's just there and you definitely don't have to hide it from the police if you ever get pulled over

and plus +++

it's pretty much a one hit kill if you ever get angry enough, definitely a plus in my book

I have a knife in my glove box. Only 3-4in blade. Not the biggest but it will mess someone up.

worse case scenario, just use the car... i got full coverage insurance so ill just get another one or maybe even get a good deal on a used 335i

as long as you mind your own business, your more likely to get in trouble by the cops for having a weapon or have it tempt you into escalating a situation then it is likely to have it happen.

I have conceal and carry permit, and sometimes take along my baretta, And I am not afraid to use it, and the two times I was pulled over I told the officer that I had a handgun, and showed him my permit, all legal.

Free advice - run away and call the cops if you get into a situation where you need a weapon. Unless you're trained, pulling a gun on someone who's serious will probably get you killed and/or sent to jail.

Are you seriously thinking about getting into shootout on the NJ turnpike?

yes, actually if you have a gun you need proper training and you HAVE TO BE WILLING TO USE IT, otherwise it is more dangerous. Now saying that, try me.

I agree with most of you guys in that you shouldn't let it escalate in the first place. If it does, call the cops. However, there will be times when the 'aggressor' won't need your help in letting it escalate, or cares about the cops being called. Its not a bad idea to have something non-lethal or something that won't get you in trouble such as a baseball bat as a LAST RESORT. I think at most people, around here at least, are content with showing their frustration by screaming. Everyone wants to go home unscathed.

I have a LCF (license to carry firearms concealed). It's for last resort-someone is about to die if I don't use it type situations (which I hope never occurs). But it's there if I need it to protect myself or my loved ones.

In regards to your telling the officer that you had a handgun-- most states don't require you too. You live in PA- we are not required to tell the officer about the weapon. If you get pulled over and the officer asks if you have anything illegal in the car, just reply "no". Your concealed weapon in this case is entirely legal and does not apply to his question. If the officer asks you do you have any weapons in the vehicle, reply back with I do not have any illegal items in the vehicle.

Honestly though, when I get pulled over (the few times I do) I just hand the officer my drivers license, insurance info, and my license to carry concealed permit. This way there are no questions if he asks me to get out and searches my person or the car. Plus it shows respect by identifying you are carring legally so they don't get scared sh*tless if your shirt lifts up and they see a firearm.

No touching the coupe, me, or family/friends.

Exactly DJ, my thoughts exactly, my LCF expire 2011, I got it in Cambria County, hopefully when I renew Allegheny County its not a big issue, its a pain in Philly to get one, not sure about Pittsburgh.

No weapon, just a Surefire E2D Defender in the glove box, and that's as bad as it gets.

i agree with EVERY part of this and WAIT in PA you can carry a handgun if you have a permit????????????????????????? WTF

oh and to the OP in my situation that happened it PROB would have been worse IF i had a gun. Lets say i was allowed to have one. What would i have done??? either pull it out and shoot OR get out of car with gun drawn. EITHER WAY would have been dangerous. BC lets say he got nervous bc he saw that and ran me over. I may of been RIGHT but as my dad ALWAYS says "you may have been right, but you were still dead wrong" or something like that lol

oh yea in my car i carry a wooden bat, a 4-5in blade in the center console w/ a razor blade......glove comp prob 2 knives and sometime a 6 and a half foot hockey stick LMAO the knives are all for safety as in get stuck in car have to cut the seatbelt BUT the big ones for car stuff or weapon like ther bat is

so for those of you that don't know, in California you can have a handgun in your car IF you have a gun license AND the gun MUST be LOCKED in a compartment and the ammunition MUST be LOCKED in a SEPARATE compartment. soooo when someone comes to assult you, you got to tell them hold on and then unlock the compartment and get the gun and then go unlock the other compartment where the bullets are, put the clip in the gun, c*** it back, turn off the safety, then you can protect yourself... it's like wtf? what idiot ever thought this was a good idea? i mean chances are that a criminal trying to rob or kill people will not care about a weapons charge so the only people who follow the law are the potential victims unless you have a special permit to have a loaded/concealed weapon but those are hard to get and require a special situation like having a store and transporting the money home or to the bank.

Actually in PA you have to have a permit to CONCEAL your gun. You can openly carry a gun in PA. Obvously there are some places off-limits, courthouses, schools, but yup you can can with a Philly exception:

that due to 18 Pa.C.S. § 6108 (Carrying firearms on public streets or public property in Philadelphia) a License To Carry Firearms is required to carry a firearm in any manner on the streets or public property of a "City of the first class" (Philadelphia.)

Here's an interesting tid bit:

To the folks with CCW's, I think one of the first lessons taught in the class was to NOT mention to anyone that you have a CCW.... linknut, hopefuly you will never have to use yours because your statements come across more as someone waiting to use their weapon as opposed to someone that only wants to use it in a very last case scenario...

furthermore, its not even worth mentioning that you have a firearm in the car in a road rage thread... who would actually use a firearm in a road rage incident? Last case scenario only if either you or someone else is in serious, and immediate threat of death....

I think too many people with CCW's are more interested in saving face than they are in preserving life...

Matt, even if it was your A/C, next time do exactly as you did and get the hell outta there and call the police...

when I had to use my weapon at home, as pissed as i was, even though I saw a weapon in his hand, I still gave him a chance to keep from getting shot by telling him to drop his weapon and firing a warning shot...

my point is this, if you have a weapon, no matter the situation, you will need to keep a cool head about you and be smart if you have to use it... most of the folks here that have permits probably have never actually had to use it, so the e-thug mentality of "try me and see" may not hold up when it comes time for you to actually use it... flight or fight is real, and flight is almost always a better option than fight... just my .03

I wish I never had to, I agree Rjd Have to keep a cool head but still be decisive. OH and NEVER EVER flash your piece, thats straight up retarded, keep alcohol out of the mix, and don't openly mention about a LCF (this is the internet), provides some anonymity.

e-thug, funny cause its true, No, but in all honesty, its no laughing matter, and what was said before is even if you have a gun you better be prepared or it'll be more dangerous...Saved my life period, but I still have a healthy respect and ven a little fear of said firearms.

If you have a choice to fight or flee and live either way, choose the latter.

in fight or flight... always choose flight unless you absolutely have to fight... don't chase a$$hole drivers off the freeway my friend... it could end up being a very bad night!!! jut get the plates and call the cops... I;d rather live with a bruised ego than be dead and have the last word in a road rage incident!

Yep, anyone can legally carry openly anywhere but courthouses, schools, post offices, etc, and outside of the city of Philadelphia. However you still need a background check when purchasing.

I have a CCW permit and have a Beretta .40 always in my car unless I'm headed out of state. Gotta love PA! I like how we're the only ones who seem to have firearms in our cars

I'm sure some people here think we're crazy, but when you grow up around firearms and have experience and training with them, it's not a huge deal. Like everyone else, I hope to never ever have to use it on a human being, but I most certainly will if it's to protect myself or someone else. Oh.. and don't even think about breaking into my house
