If you are having problems making 300 - 350 hp on spary u have some tuning problems. I know some huys pushing close to 400-450+ range on stock internals and head. Maybe the way u ar tuning the motor could be a problem. Maybe a stand alone or chipped ecu will help???

standalone= a ecu system that works all by itself, Haltech, Motec, SDS are all standalone systems. A piggyback would be inline with the stock ecu

whats the price range or where can i find them. It sounds like i should move to a new engine management system anyway... high octane is killing my wallet.

What does a standalone have to do with high octane? If you can't afford high octane you can't afford a standalone. A standalone won't allow you to run regular gas, lower compression will.

umm ok jwt says you can with their upgrade im SO SORRY if a standalone cant do that. thats why i asked the question in the first place. prolly cause they retard the timing but still my options are open and im asking.

Well, Fuel Management is an option for lower octane gas...It will just use more of it to compensate.

DFI, Speed Pro, and Haltech are all valid options costing between $1500 and $3200 for the system. Installation will run about another $2000.

It's not cheap, but it is a good way to go if serious modifications are planned fro the future.

yeah ok but after the fuel management is put in what do the ratios change to? am i using twice as much gas or what? the reason im asking is if i put it in my car and basically spend the same amount on gas its not really a worthwhile effort UNLESS im missing something here like some other plus to this new system.

Realistically, you'll be spending the same ammount on gas no matter what.Higher octane, lower octane...It all evens out when you add everything up.Sure you may spend less on a fill up, but you'll fill up more often too.

See my point?

yeah exactly what i was getting at as well... awwwshoot. well i have learned to cut on costs with add in octane booster (though it just isnt the same) and im not sure if thats really bad for the car or what. It stops pinging when i put it in with 93 octane.

if you actually have sohc pistons in your dohc then you should be using no less than 93 octane anyways.

umm read a little closer guys. i said it stops pinging when i put the octane boost in. sheesh. it still pings a little on 93 without the 104 boost. and it runs WILD when i use 118

ouch!

i just noticed that you're using 90mm pistons. out of curoisity how much compression do you think you're running?

its got to be close to if not over 12 to 1 so ouch is right. How much does a compression tester go for? i want to check so i know when i get my computer upgraded in the spring (be nice to have one anyway).

i can tell you now that you're pushing 11.9:1...unless you had you're head milled, then it's more.

no ihavnt at all. thats a good idea but im worried about the valves smashing into the pistons... i dont know i might just get a smaller head gasket if i want to squeeze out a couple extra horses. Plus if im going that far i need to build up my head (not like i dont need to now but i dont drive the 93 that often).

you do realize that there's no way your going to be able to run on pump gas right?

no standalone or ecu upgrade is going to fix this. and even if it did work, you're still going to be pushing it on 93.

i bet you're burning oil too.

yeah not too much though. The exhaust smoke isnt really blue at all. I think i must have gotten some good rings, but i know theyre gonna have to be changed after a little bit, maybe those swedish rings would help? Well as for the octane issue i figured that but just hoped somebody knew something i didnt. Oh well i gotta go for tonight so maybe i catch ya later in the week. thanx demitrius.-Dave
