I have a question, have anyone experienced difficulties lifting the trunk when opening? it seems that the trunk struts on my 2006 m35x are going bad. My question is are they like that from the manufacturer or is just that mine are aged and needs replacement? (177K miles on mine) any suggestions for a higher performance trunk struts that can lift the trunk ones pops open? Thanks

No, it should be relatively easy. Sounds like either your struts are sticking or they are bad. I can't help on the last bit though, never looked into stronger struts that open the trunk themselves.

eBay is your friend for this one...Should be able to find many options for $20-30/set. I bought some on there, and worked like a charm to regain the "spring" in the trunk. Not advocating for the below, but as an example...

What kind of difficulties are you facing and what's normal to you guys? All the 3 y50s that I've dealt with had trunks that did this.
Pop the trunk and the bottom lip rises not even an inch. I have to stick my fingers carefully not to scratch the bumper cover. However, lift the trunk and it will hold itself in any position.
Are mine goofy too?

I don't mind it too much but in quick evaluation, I just thought it's the way the pivot, effort & load arms were designed. So I don't know if a stronger strut will help. What could help is that spring-loaded knob that the latch hits on the way back. Maybe a longer, stronger spring there?
Again, just my opinion. If I were in the business of tossing bodies into my trunk I bet I'd want the trunk lid to go all the way up. Hehe

By all means give stronger struts a try

Yea, mine they just do not support my trunk lid, they only capable of keeping it in place half way. I was hoping to find some high pressure struts that can generate stronger lift than my current ones or even open the trunk by themself !!

I have new ones (oem) and they don't lift the trunk deck more than an inch, just holds it open when all the way up
