Well, we have us yet another idle problem. The victim: 90 KA24E rebuilt several months ago, all emissions removed, new plugs wires rotor cap w/p fuel filter gaskets etc etc. at time of rebuild.
A few weeks ago, the engine began idling like crap. The exhaust note sounds like a worn out v8 with a cam. It will not hold idle by itself. On the flipside, I am getting the same if not slightly better mileage. She runs and drives great, just wont idle.
Finally got around to poking under the hood and discovered cylinder 2 is dry firing. I can hear a hissing sound when it does manage to stay on long enough. This scared the crap out of me at first, as I thought something really bad happened. Timing is set, and I have spark. That leaves fuel.
I pulled all of the injector wires one at a time, and the only one that did not kill the engine immediately was #2. I replaced the injector with no less than 4 others. Nothing. I jacked up the rear end and loaded the drivetrain, only then did #2 fire. What should the connector be reading on a meter, and why is only this cylinder malfunctioning? Even went as far as to replace the ECM with a known working unit. Same problem.
Really sorry for the long post, any input would be appreciated. Also, will driving the car in this state cause any internal damage? Like I said, its been 3 weeks and this is my daily. Thanks all.
