I dunno if any of the rest of you open your hatches enough to have started noticing this, but it's not unusual for my hatch to get opened and closed 8-10 times per day. I'm not sure if Nissan didn't account for people like me, or if I've just got some not-so-great struts on my hatch, but I basically have to manually lift the hatch from horizonal to max opening, because the struts would take... oh... a half hour to let out between those positions if left alone.

Anyone else experiencing this? I might be making service trip #2 to the dealer soon (brakes are also grinding)....

Yea, Ive noticed that as well. The struts on my rear hatch need to be opened manually after it open half way itself. Its cold here in Roch. NY so we'll see once it warms up.

I don't think it's cold related. It was doing it when it was sunny an 55 yesterday...

i open mine alot too but mine seem to work ok, nissan does have a bad rep about 1st year production cars, probably due to excesive wear and tear though

My does it too. It slow's down at 3/4 of travel. To close it, i have to maintain pressure till it locks. Sometime have to slammed it...

I have a 2008 SL and mine are very weak as well. I have to manually lift the last quarter of travel.

OK... I have a service appointment for March 5th. I'll let you guys know if they find something, so you can talk to your service departments too.

I live in Florida and dead winter for us is around 50 - 40 degrees. When it hit that temperature a couple of weeks ago I noticed that my hatch had trouble opening but when it got back to 70 or so it was fine. So it might be cold related but gets affected sooner than later as far as temperature is concerned.

Mine does the same thing. They told us to bring it in and they would replace the struts.

My "door open" light was lit on the dash this morning as I left for work, and would go on, then off as I drove. I thought, oh great, my first problem - turns out that the hatch was open from taking items out of the back last night. Be forewarned that even though you think the hatch is closed, it's best to make sure before you go into the house for the night. It's was in the negative double-digits last night in Minneapolis. Brrrrrrr! Blue in Minnesota

Yeah, I have had the same problem where the hatch "closes" but doesn't completely lock, leaving the "open door" light on and the hatch rattling as I drive until I can stop and close it properly.
