if it's just a slightly loose belt, it will only squeal @ lower engine speeds (aka @ startup in ur case).

Ever heard those ooolllddd cars start up. EEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR, then sorta okay.

easier way is to have the hood up, have someone else start the car, and you can isolate teh noise easier outside the car.

You can also check to see if there is any play on each of the belts w/ the car off.

Well, this is considering the belt is still the problem.

If you tightened it and it feels like there is still a lot of play (i.e. more than 1/4" w/ "decent" amount of pushing -> you can't do a real test w/o a specialized tool), then either replace the belt & see, or spray on the belt lube/quiet stuff that they sell @ auto parts stores.

If that still happens, it could be one of the pulleys starting to go out.

Then from there, it will start becoming an actual component .

Check to make sure like your alternator isn't loose or anything else of the belt assembly.
