I don't really feel the need to, unless people really want to argue about it.

I was just trying to illustrate how "the economy" is such a big vague notion, and how generalizations don't work very well with it. People like to assume that either POTUS has a great deal of control over it or almost none, and I was trying to show that he DOES have a great deal of control over certain factors (deficit), and then not so much over others (something like the housing crisis or the dot-com explosion).

I agree, the "economy" has become very vague. Rolling up the bailout, the housing market, the price of oil, commodities, and everything else is simply overwhelming for the average American. Most people's heads are spinning and I believe that a lot of people are probably worrying over things that aren't going to impact them a lot. I've heard a bunch of people at work talk about how the dow dropped below 10000 and that their job is in jeopardy - it's simply not true. Everything being rolled up into one large topic is making the situation uncomprehendable, and someone would be smart to actually break it up on the news or something.

$3.11 for gas this morning, and still no credit to the GWB Administration.

You can bet if it had happened with Oblowhard in office, he'd have been hailed as a hero.

p.s. Keep in mind I am not one of the idiots wo believes the POTUS has any sway over gas prices... Just sayin'.

I see Greg has gotten so used to $3+ gas he thinks $3.11 is cheap.

Not really too bad when you consider prices elsewhere in the world.

Also, not far off the inflation-adjusted mark from 30 years ago.

Sorry, this is a serious discussion, but I just have to do this - it is so appropriate .. given the recent bail-out, the AIG banquet situation, etc., etc., etc..

I just love Sinfest ... don't tell my wife, but I fell for Monique a long time back.

I love Sinfest!

We only pay less than other places because of taxes at the pump. All countries pay about the same, wholesale, for their imported oil. Those other countries (Japan, Europe) are so much more expensive because many of them have a 100%++ gasoline tax.

Oh, and Sinfest is such a fantastic comic. Nice post, Z.
