OK so it all started one evening, my friend hydrolocked his sohc. Well it still runs, but has a bum valve and low compression on the number four. So we figured the only solution possible. CA18DET ftw you know. Ok so now we order the motor. We played the waiting game for a week and then the weekend because they didnt deliver on saturdays. So now here we go Monday it shows up! We are so excited and then all of a sudden, it was like unwrapping a slughtered body wrapped up in plastic. The transmission was locked up in gear, and will not come out, the harness was cut off in the most critical of spots, the coil cover had hole knocked in it, the mass air flow sensor was missing, and the intercooler they sent was for a SR. So now we are in a battle almost with this company who shall remain nameless (at least until they actually screw us), and while we are waiting on parts we are wondering if there are any things we can do to go ahead and get this thing in and running. The main thing is obviously the MAF and transmission.

So I guess I want to know if there is another maf we can use and can you not mate the ka transmission to the ca bell, and if so how hard is it?

The SOHC KA MAFS will work, but not very well. IIRC it's rich at idle and lean in the top end.

Yes, you can make the KA trans to the CA bell-housing. Not hard. Search around, it's been covered (same as for an SR).

Lucky for you there are a number of CA enthusiasts in Alabama. If you need parts make a list and I will let you know if I have any of it. I don't have much right now, but I will be glad to try and help. See if you can't get it all sorted out with the company first though.

an SR and CA SMIC are identical in just about every way. the SR has a BPV is about the only difference if I remember correctly.

a KA trans will work with the CA bellhousing. you may check and see if the clutch fork is just funked up and not allowing the shifter to move.

sounds like you have a wiring nightmare ahead of you as well. Might consider getting a megasquirt setup and save yourself the headaches of trying to piece it together.(this will also help with your maf issues and potentially the CAS if that ends up being bad)

when we hear stories like this, often the ECU is Fubar as well, so you may want to have it tested on a running car........ specially if it is a "_____ tuned" (blitz, tomei, ect)

Ps I hate to tell you, but who ever you bought the motor from will not be sending you ANYTHING they still owe you. None of those companies ever make good and just give you a run around till you get tired of fighting or till that 30 day warranty is over.

unfortunately they have no real reason to help you out(they have their money) and you have little to nothing to wager against them. Even putting them on blast on the web means nothing as a new company domain is just a few dollars these days. hell seasoned tuners have even pulled this recently and its becoming a real rare thing to find anyone who cares for their customers anymore.

Maybe you will be lucky, but I wouldnt be holding my breath. GL to you.

The transmission probably got bonked around in shipping and can be fixed. Happened to mine. Open the plate inside the bellhousing and align the rods that have the transmission gears/syncros on them. If they arent all the same length you will be locked out of all gears.

Wire harness.....buy one off the boards here. Maf.....use a sohc Ka maf as suggested here. SR SMIC.....should work with CA. Is there even a difference? The rest of the piping and parts to make it work should be available on ebay or the forums also.....as they are thow away parts when people go FMIC. Cover with a hole.......ebay or forums.

the SR SMIC has a stock BPV..... the CA doesnt. otherwise they are the same.

at this point the smart investment is to just make your own FMIC and be done with it.

as for the coil covers. most people throw that crap in the trash....... as it does nothing but hold heat anyway.

How much do you want for the 5spd transmission? I'm located in San Antonio, Tx, but I wouldn't mind picking it up. Shoot me an email at [email protected] or at the one in my profile. Thanks.
