hi i need some help picking a turbo for my KA24DE motor, ok im really interested in the IHI VF30 turbo, i know it comes stock on the STI, but not a lot of people in the USA know about this turbo because everybody picks garret turbos, and since your in japan you probably know alot about this turbo, do you think this turbo will be a good turbo to put on the KA motor? also i just want a good street turbo i dont want alot of power i really dont go drag racing maybe like once or twice every other month i go autocrosses like once a month so i do more autocrosses than draging. also i think the turbo is ball bearing also i know alot of scooby guys upgrade their wrx turbo w/ this turbo. basically i just want a turbo that will spool up quick and mke ok power thanks for the help

Personally I have no experience with IHI. But I've talked with a few people in the past who have been displeased. I think it might have been premature failure of the turbine. I was advised not to go with IHI from a friend Mario. He built the 1400 AWHP GTR that was being talked about on here a few weeks ago.

That was enough for me. If your getting one used I would be cautious.

Other then that, I believe the size will fine for your car. Your hp goals shouldn't be to high though. That turbine is on the smaller side.

i think the IHI VF30 is good till 350 HP and the IHI VF22 is good till 400 HP but, they spool up quick i think its starts spooling at 2400rpm on a scooby. i was thinking they are good because APEX-i uses them on all their turbo kits i might pick it up i dont know yet, im going turbo shopping this month got my tax return in :D

WTF?

Anyway, you might want to check out "maximum boost" by corky bell. It's supposed to be the most informative source out there for someone who's not very knowledgeable on turbocharging in general. I know I'll be picking it up pretty soon here.

The second best source seems to be WD though ;)

i found some useful info about IHI turbos on i-club, basically the

VF22 is the biggest <-- roller bearing and its 750 shipped supports up to 400HP power is in mid and top

VF30 is the the next one in line <-- sleeve bearing and its 795 shipped supports up to 350HP power is at low to mid

VF34 same as VF30 but is roller bearing <--1125 shipped can support up to 350HP power is also low to mid

but the VF22 doesnt spool up till 3000rpm on a 2.0L but on a 2.4L it should be a different story right?? the VF30/34 gets full boost by 3000rpm on 2.0L also; im thinking about the VF22 because its kinda cheap maybe like 100-150 more then a garrett turbo but its ball bearing these prices can be found at http://www.gruppe-s.com/Subaru/subeng.htm

im leaning towards the VF22 what do you guys think
