So I decided to replace my radiator coolant hoses, since I was doing water pump, thermostat, etc. I had somebody pick up the hoses, since I was busy working on the other stuff. Anyway, one of the hoses looked fine and the other one looked used! I took it back and they said that they dip the hoses in wax to prolong their shelf life. The problem is that this stuff is on the inside of the hoses too.

Is this common practice for hoses nowadays? Should I try to flush it out with steaming soapy water or am I just being paranoid?

I've never heard of anyone dipping the hoses in wax or shipping compound. I'd soak it in hot soapy water and see if it comes off, or return it.

I've noticed that some hoses I get have a white, flaky substance on them.. I just thought they got shipped in the same container as the other stuff being smuggled in the country...

I never paid attention to it. Put the damn hose on, and call it a day.
