What's the difference between using a liquid car wax and a paste wax. Is one better than the other??Is the liquid wax only to be used with a buffer??

ThanksJay

Paste is usually a little more difficult to buff off but offers the best results. I personally tried them all, and the Meguiars Gold Class Clear Coat Paste is, hands down, the best wax I ever used. You will see the difference.

I start out with the Mirror Glaze Hi-tech Car wash 00.Then use the Medallion Premium Paint Protection Afterwards and after a quick drive I always use the Final Inspection. (WAAAYYY cheaper to buy as a gallon)There's also something they have out that I use for little scratches that works well too. Supposed to use a machine buff with it but on little scratches using your hands is fine....but...after seeing some Zaino results I'll be switching shortly.

zaino is amazing. just a pain i think. i read about it on their site or something and it requires days of letting stuff sit on the paint and stuff. i can't do that, i have to drive my car!

Liquid last much shorter than paste wax, if you don't beleive me, try it yourself....plus the shine of the liquid isn't as shinny as long as the paste either....the paste just offers more protection cause its not made up with water, like the paste is.....

if you are going to wax your car every 2 months, you can use a cleaner wax everyother month, and then at least 1 coat of liquid....paste can last you an extra month or two...but it will be harder on your elbows.......

Whch is why a respected car care company like Meguiar's recommends it...

Clay bar, paint cleaner, polish, then carnauba. All the pros will tell you the same.

IMHO I really think the carnauba is just an extra glossy polisher that dosen't really help protect your car....but if you were entering a car show I would highly recomend you use it....its just carnauba dosen't last that long IMO.

But AZ you are right...thats what the pros recomend.........and thats why I only use Meguiar's products.

I was asking about paste vs liquid for a friend of mine. He drives a 02 Maxima SE. I dont know squat about waxing (maybe cause Ive never had a car worth waxing!?!).It sounds like the paste works just as well as the liquid (if not better), but the paste is a little more difficult to apply.

::sigh:: so they recommend a product they sell and produce? interesting. The do make one of the most popular car care lines, do they make the highest quality and best specific products? not necessarily.

Whether you agree or not, the info is out there on how and why cleaner wax damages paint. and no, im not going to go find you links and articles, but you can feel free to do that yourself.

different "pro's" use different things...and that information comes from "pro's" of on sort or another

I am not bashing meguiars in any way, and yes them and mothers are regaurded very highly, and yes, they both sell cleaner wax, but like i said, there is evidence out there, to show you one way or another how cleaner wax, 'can' damage paint

i would only use a cleaner wax once on a car. wash it with a degreaser like Dawn then use a cleaners wax for that first time wax. (this would replace the clay bar if not going the zaino route), then follow up with the regular protectant wax. then maitain.

So can soap and water.

I actually am NOT a big fan of Meguiar's - I like 3M products, and am probably gonna be a Zaino convert here pretty soon.

BTW, Chris, the clay bar is a good step even if you're using old-fashioned regular waxing procedures (as opposed to an exotic polymer treatment like Zaino).
