I used a product called Simoniz ( you know the one, "got a scratch. . . "FIX IT") Well, to make a long story short I noticed that stuff didn't really work. I did use their wax with a buffer. It didn't look good so, I used this Zymol paint cleaner/wax and buffed it on. I think I messed up when I did that. Any suggestions out there for me to get my black back to looking good?

If you used a scratch remover/polish with a buffer, you may have buffed the clear coat away. Put up some pics so we can see what you're talking about. That'll help.

Is it still shiny with swirls, or is it dull?

I don't believe I took off the clear coat per say, but I notice when I do wash it. It doesn't have that shine shine not dull but then there are the swirls from using that buffer. I will (depending on the weather) take a few shots of the hood so that you can check it out.

Sorry to say, but you are probably looking at some new paint to completely repair this. Even if the clear coat isn't completely removed, the scratches sound deep enough that to get rid of them, the clear coat will be damaged trying to remove them. You might try the Zaino products...first clay bar, then swirl remover then Z2 (polish ((but not polishing compound)) ). I doubt that spot will ever look as good as the rest of the car, though, so it will depend on how picky you are whether you re-paint or not. Black is the worst color to have this happen to as it will show every flaw more clearly. Wish I had better news or other advice and I hope I am wrong. Best of luck.

+1 for Zaino products. I've always had excellent results!
