ok so my waterpump started to leak about a month ago, so i replaced it. all ran good till about a week ago when the bearings went out in it. it sounded like rodknock.

so i took it back to shucks and replaced it. then the one they gave me was all screwed up. the fins stuck out way too far and when tightened to the block, it wouldn't spin freely.

i took that one back and got a new one. its been one my car about 3days now and it started makin that knocking noise yeaterday. it hasent overheated at all.

do i have the worst luck with ca waterpumps, or is this a comen problem? i used the 88 pulsar one. im thinking that shucks is gay and i should return my pump for a refund then go to nissan...

advice?

Are you using fan clutch? If so, not wise to be using a fan clutch on pulsar water pumps as they were not designed with a fan clutch in mind. You should be lokking for a water pump from a 1984-88 nissan 200sx with CA18ET or CA20E engine.

If you use the pulsar pump, you can't use a clutch fan and you have to use the pulsar pulley. Otherwise, you need to use the CA18ET pump from an S12 (1986 200sx turbo).

Good luck finding an OEM one from Nissan. Nissan stopped making and stocking/carrying parts for the CA engines like 2 years ago.

Curious as to what the difference is between pulsar/200sx pulleys are? And can you get them at an auto parts store?

they were the least helpful of anyone, sorry to say and werent really willing to help me out at all. Napa was pretty helpful, but though I was confused when asking for it. I went to the advance "Mothership" or hub in town, and they had a few in stock.

Where can you get a fwd pulley? I got the pump before I knew you had to have the matching pulley and now I cant find one.

its not that.

the center bore in the pulley is smaller on the fwd waterpumps.

thats why you will notice a loose fit of rwd pulley on fwd waterpumps.

if you are running electric fan, fwd pump will work fine.

So since I have eletric fans, my rwd pulley is fine on my fwd pump?

should be fine.

the big problem is if you try to run the fan off of it, there is nothing keeping it properly lined up, so you will get vibrations and imbalance that eat up the bearings.

think of it like your wheel, and how the whole in the center fits over the hub. if the whole in the wheel is to big you should use hub rings, etc.

Float was right about the alignment, the pulsar pump sticks further out and now my water pump pulley is about one rib further out than the alt/crank pulleys. Seems no one has a pulsar pulley either.

float never said anything about the alignment, or the pump sticking out farther.

he didnt say that because it doesnt.

if yours is you have something else wrong.

the only difference with the fwd pulley is the alignment whole in the center of it is smaller.

Sorry that was Dalaz68 that said something about the alignment with the crank pulley and it does stick out farther, unless you can prove me wrong about my own car that I'm staring at using your keyboard. I can see in the pics that the fwd pulley sits closer to the motor, look at the ridge around the pulley and you can see its offset back a little. Any one got a fwd pulley? I cant find one at the stupid parts stores around here.

so should you be able to use the clutch fan on a OEM Nissan fwd pump if you use the pulsar fwd pulley like in the pic ?
