So I'm replacing the motor in my 2002 Pathfinder due to low compression on the number 2 cylinder. I have a low mile (65,000 miles) replacement motor on my engine stand and decided to replace a few things while it is easy to get to everything. Anyway, I was installing a new water pump and failed to put the motor at TDC while I removed the tensioner. While I was putting in the water pump the chain went tight and and it made a 'pop' sound. I think one of the cam banks may have moved and jumped a tooth. I can try jumping a tooth back, but have no idea which way the cams are facing at TDC with the timing chain cover on. I can remove the cam phaser covers and take a look, but what can I look for to see if the cams are correct? Anyway to fix this without removing the timing cover??? Thanks for any help!
I did find a template from Jim Wolf Technology, but the template doesn't match what I see under the cam phaser covers. And the template looks a bit different, maybe for a different vq35de motor?
