I have a DOHC KA24 and I just bought a water temp gauge (elec) and I wanted to know if I could take out the factory pkug under the thermostat housing and replace with one of the fittings that came with the gauge (has metric as well as other fitting). if I do change it out will it effect anything else besides the factory cold/Hot gauge in the cluster??/ i.e. fans from not wokring running bad...those kind of things... and maybe some might have a pic of it installed there...or where ever else they might have it installed. thanks for the help in advanced/Chris

There are two coolant temperature sensors. The two wire CTS is connected to the ECU and the ECU controls things like the fans based on this sensor's reading. Don't touch that one. On the other hand, the single wire CTS is used by the water temp gauge and is pretty useless as far as I know.

the two wire one has the red clip..so that one I should leave right where it is....and the one next to it I can send a wire from there to my gauge. I just am making sure the red clip one is the one I leave. thanks againChris

At least on my '93 KA24DE, the sensor that communicates with the ECU has a red plug. I believe the single wire sensor that works the stock temp gauge is a black plug and it's fairly close to the red one but on the right (driver side).

You can get a hose adapter and put it whereever you want if you don't want to mess with the factory one. I have an sr with the blitz upper rad hose and that's where my sensor is controlling my fans. This is a good option as it reads the temperature of the water coming out of the engine, which is IMO a little more accurate as to how hot the engine is. If you put the sensor on the lower rad hose it only tells you how hot the coolant is inside the radiator because it's before the thermostat.
