ive tried two different aftermarket temperature gauges, a autometer and another one, with the sender in the upper radiator house, grounded correctly on the radiator support (.03ohms resistance to battery negative). both of them will read 100 degrees while running and usually during idle, but if i turn off the car and come back 10 minutes later itll be ~170-190. Doesn't the flow on a CA go into the radiator from the lower hose and the cooler water back into the motor through the upper hose? Could it just be since the weather is cold that im cooling the water down to 100 degrees? both hoses are hot when running so i dont see how this is possible. any help appreciated.

If the temp goes to normal while driving and climbs up while at a stop, a good possibility you have a glogged radiator. I had the exact problem on my Z32.

Good luck,

kinda makes sense to me. because the water pump isn't pumping the coolant and you're not moving for the radiator to dissapate the heat properly. granted the water does circulate while the car is off, but it happens slowly.

since both hoses are hot though i dont see how it could possible say 100* still, must be something electrical.

Running the sensor in the upper rad. hose won't give accurate engine temp readings. It needs to be in the intake manifold somewhere. Anywhere else will give erroneous readings.

float what are you proposing? i thought everyone put in radiator hoses, its got to be somewhat accurate. just so we're on the same page this is coolant temperature gauge.

I put min in the intake manifold where the stock sensor goes. I had to drill and tap it to accept a reducer, but thats it. For some reason though mine, consistantly reads 15 degrees lower than what my SDs says the car is. It's kinda frustrating. Stupid autometer crap...
