water pump whent out.

Ok i am about to buy an automatic 90' 240sx (base modle) for 1700 bucks and there is one problem with the car- the thing is leaking coolant. I figure it is the water pump. Could it be anything else? also it has 117,000mi on that transmission and motor.

HURRY i need a new car soon- my last car (a ****ty honda) blew up on me (transmission - auto - go figure ).

Also do you guys think this is a good idea to get this car or is there some big problems with this type of car?

can u see where the coolant is leaking from?? it could be a hose, it could be the radiator, it could be multiple things. check to see if it wet or is dripping by the water pump.

I am pretty sure it is the water pump. I plan on replacing all the hoses as well as i am in there the thremastat too.

Yes water pumps leak when going bad, more of a trickle coming out the little breathing hole on the bottom, clean the area and inspect. Is an easy swap, with your mileage you should be in good shape for a while.

also how difficult is it to switch from auto to manual in one of these 240s?

I plan to drop an sr20det in this and the thing is i have an auto - i hate autos.

IS not too hard if you are mechanically inclined, if you get the SR20 plus transmission then you will be half way there.......It might be kind of pricey to get all the components for the manual setup, I guess it depends where you get them from...
