Hello,

I am working with my son's 88 V6 4WD pickup. We need to change out the water pump which didn't look too hard until I found I had to remove the vibration dampener (don't have the tool in my garage). I called a mechanic to get some direction and they told me that I would need to remove the timing belt to get at the pump - I don't see that in the Haynes book, but it also doesn't get real specific about the 4WD.

Anyone have any guidance?

Thanks!

You can rent tools for free at many auto parts stores, you just need to pay a security deposit. Not sure about working on the v6 myself, though.

Thanks for this. Unforunately, I think the 4x4 creates a problem as the pump is located behind the timing belt.
