My car has been having a problem with getting hotter then i would like. i have a new radiator in the car. I have a sound coming from the front of the engin that almost sounds like a belt's sliping. but all the belts are new (less then 1 year old), and all are all tight. it sounds almost like all the sound is coming from the water pump, but i was just wondering if they make any nose when going out??? or what else it might be. its not really a consistant sound like a belt and not as high piched.

thanks for any info

well, why not rip out the water pump and see. On my 91 240sx, I had a problem with it overheating and a friend of mine had a water pump lay'n around coz he swapped his motor (to another KA coz he blew his) and took it out. Before I replaced them, I compared them and the one that came out of my 91 had lots of horizontal play while the other did not. After that it kinda solved the problem. I have no idea how much one would run for though.

Yeah I have no problem putting on a new water pump, just kind of sick of fixing all this stuff that won’t be around in 5 months. The weather sucks here in Utah right know, so i might wait tell this Friday to take a look at it. Thanks for all the info. I also have to get the safety and emissions tests done this month so I will see what happens, still hoping my car will pass. Thanks

Ok i have taken a look at the car. The water pump rotated nicely, I replaced the thermostat, and the radiator cap. car still is over heating. Something else I have noticed is my exhaust note has changed sense this heating problem began. My next thought is head gasket, or air pocket. I am going to check the oil tomorrow and maybe run a compression test. My car has also seemed more sluggish as of late. Is there anything else you guys can think of?? as it would be greatly helpful and beneficial.

Thanks for the thought, saturday i went to pick up my FSM from the nissan dealer, so i thought i would just let them have a look, and i would fix it if big, or just pay like 10 more and let them fix it. Man am i stupied this is the 2nd time i have done this. i could have purchest a compression tester, and some other tools, parts and spent less then the 100 i am spending now. although they are going to flush and fill my radiator/enigine in that price. so its only about 50 dollars for them to dignose it. still pretty made though, because i went there saturday, and i cant get it tell today. but i test drove a new WRX, man that car is fast. really made me think about buying one. I am just hoping my car will last me tell next year, then i can swap or pay off and get a new car.

I've seen 2 cars have bad temp sensors, and register incorrectly. The gauge itself can also be bad. If those both check fine, make sure and bleed the car with the frontend raised in the air, allowing then air pocket to flow out of the block into the radiator. The best way to verify if you have an air pocket is to run it without a thermostat temporarily, you'll be able to bleed it easier and it should stabilize.
