I noticed a coolant leak from the water pump pully area of my 240SX 1990 (recently mounted 1989 KA24E 85K). I thought it was a broken gasket so, removed the pump assembly from block and installed with new gasket. Then I realized that the leak is coming from two small holes on the water pump (one on side and the other below). I checked Nisssan factory service manual but it does not cover details of water pump assembly. Does anyone know what these two holes are? What should I do to stop this leak from holes?

Thank you.

the pump leaks from the hole(s) when it's time for a new pump. Replace it before you start overheating.

It would probably be a good idea to replace the water pump at 85k anyways. But if it's leaking out of the holes, you definitely need a new one.

those holes are weep holes for coolent to drain from if the pumps internal seal fails. that seal protects the pump bearing from getting coolant in it and having catostrophic failure. like ohh say fan into radiator or pump impellers into front cover.
