My cooling configuration is as followed:Koyo radPermacool 14"Nismo Thermostats

After 10 mins of idling the car over heats, and I hear high pitch metal griding noise from the water pump area.Is this sign of failed water pump?

thanks,

Well, when the water pump goes bad it doesnt really lose pumping capacity as much as make alot of noise from the bearings going bad. Maybe a new oem unit and an underdrive pully to keep the pump in its effective RPM range :)

Be careful about under driving your water pump. I was just reading a thread on Fresh Alloy where people with under driven water pumps are having problems with them over heating in traffic. Also, an under driven waterpump will start to cavitate earlier in the RPM band.

That cant be right. Underdriven means that it spins less than the engines RPM. SO it would make sense that it moves less water at idle and as such, overheats. But how could it be spinning slower and cavetating sooner?

I'm deciding to buy a water pump but not sure where I should buy it from. There is ebayer selling new water pump for $75(here )Phase2 sells it for 125 and heavy throttle sells it for 150.

Are they all same?
