water pump dead? coolant overflow

Hi, So I have been leaking coolant for the last few months now. It seems like the weep hole at the bottom side of the water pump is leaking, i'm not sure. Anyway. Today I went to get some food, and on the way back the idle rose up to about 1000 the whole drive back. In the garage, I parked and noticed that the coolant overflow tank was way filled, beyond even the max line. the fan was on full blast also, hence the high idle.

so what is wrong?

change the water pump, it's done.

yeah, but one thing that bothers me, why would the coolant tank overfill tank get filled up so much, it was almost filled up. and after the car cooled down, the coolant overfill tank went back down to the min level

it's the water expanding and contracting from the heat. Another thing you might want to have checked is the radiator cap.

pressure check the system, i alway throw in thermostats when i change the water pump also.

change thermostat, and change water pump probably it need a new gasket
