Going through the FSM it says the Crank pulley has to come out before the pump.Is that the case ??

That sounds right.

Now you have no excuse for not installing that lightweight, underdrive pulley I sent you.

You going to do the full timing belt and everything?

Still deciding.Down to one car and the wife Starts back at the school Monday.Between that and the cash I gotta throw down for my youngest to start the next semester of college I'm in a time/money crunch.

Sure wish a water pump on the J was a easy as my 63 GMC !! lol

30 minute job compared to a day or two.

Pretty much right on schedule. Mine let loose at about 167K. And I hope your youngest is attending college in his/her home state.

There's a Nissan part number for a water pump gasket, but none for the Infiniti (the Nissan fits both though).

Consider picking up a MK1 MR2 as a spare car; comparitively inexpensive and easy to work on, and very good on gas.

Best of luck.

Yep,Joe man is attending UTA about 30 minutes away.Probably borrow his car as he works on Campus , actually in the same Dorm he stays in.Hope I can get ahold of the parts quickly.I know Joe at Scottsdale is the cheapest but I don't have time for the shipping wait.

Murphys law has struck.

Two weeks ago and this wouldnt be an issue.I could drive the Van to work and back.Oh well.Just gotta deal.

Might seem like a silly question but wanna be sure.

I Lined up the timing dots on the drivers side sprockets with the old belt still in place. Both intake and exhaust are dead on.On the passenger side they are about a tooth off. both Intake and exhaust.Did the old belt stretch or jump ?Its not a complete tooth off so Im assuming it stretched.Gonna line em dead on when I put the new belt on regardless.Just curious I suppose.

The trick can be used to both loosen and tighten/torque the bolt. It involves winding a portion of a vinyl coated dog tie out around the pulley a couple of times in the appropriate direction and attaching the appropriate end to a secure part of the car, which makes holding things a one-man job. It really works.

Ended up just yankin' the starter per the FSM.Pretty easy maneuver.

Got the pump and belt back on, covers installed and pulley torqued to 160 Ft Lbs.Just need to put on all the accessory belts and put the rad and intake on then see if she purrs !!

Cranked it over via the crank bolt two revs and no issues. Timing marks are all dead on.Set the belt deflection to right about 1/4" on all spans.

Keepin' my fingers crossed !!

Just need to change the oil as she got pretty hot on that drive home. But its purring nice and smooth right now .Just wanted to warm it up long enough to know I didn't have any coolant leaks.

Dark green and now sexahier than ever !!!

Well-machined parts, o-rings, silicone RTV, plastic parts that don't corrode, anti-freeze with corrosion inhibitors, etc, all make no having leaks so much easier now.

Wurde Even treated her to distilled water along with the anti-freeze.Water pump came with a gasket so all I had to RTV was the two coolant pipes that come from the top of the block. Replaced the thermostat as well.Should be good to go for awhile !!Now for some transmission TLC.
