Well, my description of a noise when I'm stopped with the car in gear is "KaChunk KaChunk KaChunk...". (It actually sounds EXACTLY like the noise made in my house when water is running through the pipes - it's like you can hear a pump somewhere although it's a city water supply and it's only when water is actually flowing such as washing machine filling, faucet turned on, etc.)
I have linked this sound in my car to the air conditioner compressor, which is to say it only happens when the compressor kicks in - about 2 or 3 seconds later - and stops when the compressor turns off. Although, considering the compressor cycles every 15 seconds or so (really annoying!), it feels like the noise happens all the time. I've tried to troubleshoot the sound, but it goes away when the car is in P (or N), and I don't have someone to hold their foot on the brake while I'm peeking under the hood.
I worry, too, that I have the dreaded "rattle", but right now I consider it more of a transmission "grind" than a rattle. It also makes a metallic noise on occasion when putting it into and out of Park. Don't know if it's related to the grind I hear when drifting around parking lots, but I figured I'd wait until my first oil change (in a couple of weeks) and bring it up to the service department.
