Hey guys

Ive noticed since the day i bought the Rogue S, after being completely stopped (the gear in D or R) that something under the hood in front of the passenger seat makes this wierd noise like running water sound(dont know how to really describe, but "GuLu GuLu GuLu...)

From what I can tell nothing is running strange as a result and the gears are shifting normally. The only odd thing to happen is that driving from work just sitting in the traffic or stop at traffic light the car started to have the "Gu Lu Gu Lu..." sound. This only happened when the gear in D and R position, when i changed to P and N is normal. When the car start going the sound goes away.

This is a brand new car, only 3000mi on it,I took it to the dealer once (1000 miles) they said it is normal and it is safe to drive. This is really annoying what could this problem be? Please give some advise.

Thanks

Great question airaudi.

I wish I knew how to answer it for you.

Has anyone else heard similar sounds from their Rogue?

I would continue to take it back to the Nissan dealer to complain. I know it's a pain for you and a waste of your time. But if you're insistent, they may get tired of you and actually finally try to do something helpful.

I have a 2008 Rogue that I purchased in March. It has 11,000 miles on it (drive 55 miles each way to work) and noticed the same wooshie sound coming from under me...

Told my dealer about it @ the first oil change... they said it was nothing... keep an ear on it!

Told my dealer about it again at my second oil change last Friday... made an appointment to have it investigated more. Master Tech guy thought it was the steering system. They replaced the steering system, and low and behold it still made the sound. (I told the service dept. that I thought it was in the transmission, but being a woman, wasn't taken seriously!)

As of this past Friday, Nissan of NA is now going to replace the entire transmission! My dealership had to gain authorization from Nissan NA since the job is going to be over $4000.00. My dealership is being instructed to remove the bad transmission and inspect the interior and look for any "metal shards or gelled substance" that could be causing this sound. According to my dealership, this is the first official report of this problem, and my transmission is the first one being replace. PLEASE REPORT THESE PROBLEMS! BE PERSISTANT! IT IS AN EXPENSIVE JOB, AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED LONG BEFORE ANY WARRANTIES RUN OUT!

But like you said, the car runs great, and I am averaging high twenties in the gas mileage. I only heard the sounds at a very low speed, such as creeping up to a light, or turning into a parking space.

Looking forward to knowing if anyone else has luck... I will keep updating this thread as to the findings on my Rogue...

I MISS MY ROGUE!

BLPet,

Thanks so much for signing up and sharing that information with us. I'm sure many will find that very informative and helpful!

Sorry to hear that you got a bad trans. Thankfully Nissan is taking care of it for you, and you'll have it back soon good as new!

Thanks for the reply BLPet and Eikon.

For what I understand is you " only heard the sounds at a very low speed." but have you ever heard the sound when you complete stop(gear in D)?Because that is what the sound appear the most from my Rogue. Also these two days some new "sound" has been noticed, when i park the car and change the gear back to "P",sometimes i heard the metal on metal sound from the front,Has anyone else heard similar sounds ? Before i take it to the dealer again I would like to have a general idea about it.

thanks again for the reply.

Well, my description of a noise when I'm stopped with the car in gear is "KaChunk KaChunk KaChunk...". (It actually sounds EXACTLY like the noise made in my house when water is running through the pipes - it's like you can hear a pump somewhere although it's a city water supply and it's only when water is actually flowing such as washing machine filling, faucet turned on, etc.)

I have linked this sound in my car to the air conditioner compressor, which is to say it only happens when the compressor kicks in - about 2 or 3 seconds later - and stops when the compressor turns off. Although, considering the compressor cycles every 15 seconds or so (really annoying!), it feels like the noise happens all the time. I've tried to troubleshoot the sound, but it goes away when the car is in P (or N), and I don't have someone to hold their foot on the brake while I'm peeking under the hood.

I worry, too, that I have the dreaded "rattle", but right now I consider it more of a transmission "grind" than a rattle. It also makes a metallic noise on occasion when putting it into and out of Park. Don't know if it's related to the grind I hear when drifting around parking lots, but I figured I'd wait until my first oil change (in a couple of weeks) and bring it up to the service department.
