so until today when i was looking over my turbo and parts in anticipation of the upcoming build, it had never dawned on me that my turbo is water cooled. which, is fine. i have no problems with this. im just a little confused as to where the lines go. i read a post on here from way back when, i wanna say it was started by 480sx? hopefully he reads this cuz it was about his car.

im planning on using the coolant lines from the intake/tb section, but i cant figure out which one is supposed to be the feed and which is the return... if i remember correctly there are 3 hard lines that travel to the TB, a big one and 2 small ones? do i use those?

also, i read someone a moment ago that using those can heatsoak the intake mani cuz of the hot coolant coming from the turbo... is this true?

thanks a million

If it's not a BB turbo you have "have" to run the water lines, just block them off and get a turbo timer to idle the car down..

If it is, well I wouldn't worry about heatsoak in the manifold, it just doesn't seem like something that would happen from a coolant line, as long as your radiator is doing it's job.

Check the other water line threads and see where they ran lines, and if they had any issues... GL

ya i didnt think heatsoaking the intake mani was a huge problem since most people use the TB coolant lines for their turbo. jsut apossibility i guess.

i think i narrowed it down to a couple lines, just not sure which one is for the feed and which is for the return.

like i said, 480sx had a GREAT thread about this a while back, but i couldnt see a couple of the pictures well so im still unclear which ones to go with.

thanks though

Just going off the top of my head,

Does the turbo have a water inlet/outlet?

I wouldn't think it does, and if so just route the lines however you see fit.

Don't worry about a water 'inlet' and 'outlet'. It really doesn't matter. Just snag the two lines that went to your throttle body. Route them to the turbo whichever way you find fit. I personally bent hardline, and went behind my motor to make for a clean install.I did, however, 'cut' the lines back to their source when I pulled from the throttle body lines. Made for a little less rubber that could possibly break/rupture in the future.

Hope this helps.

yea that makes sense. im probably gonna stick with the braided. cuz its just so flashy... haha

i guess the only think i still dont understand is which line is which.. under the TB.. does it matter which one is connected to the lines on the turbo? or do i just close my eyes and, "hook 'em, up?" lol

also, i know that the blue chunk of hose is the oil return, but is the thin braided one the oil feed? leaving the 2 larger braided lines for water? sorry for the noob Q

IN/OUT to the turbo for coolant lines doesn't matter. You can hook up left to right, right to left. Who cares. It still serves it's function.

If you read Garrets site, it says to put your higher side of the coolant out, to the higher end of the coolant 'into' the block for some sort of auto-siphon for heat after you shut your car off. I can't explain it right now, but it makes sense if you read what they say.

Basically, the coolant will still flow after you shut the car off due to 'heat rising, cool dropping' type of murphy law type stuff.

Give me til tomorrow if you dont' find it.

lol i know thats the one i was reading.. the part i was unclear about was in the last pictures you posted, where the hardlines you made have the rubber hoses connected, i was wondering if those were pre-existing soft lines or if you added those. at the part where you said "Here, i have pointed to the two spots to hook your 3/8ths inch ID hose to. The one on the left is your feed line, the one on the right is the return." (which i think i missed the first time through) are those the two spots you connect the hoses for the turbo?
