what are the symptoms of a bad water control valve?

Look at the location of that PCV valve, a routine maintenance item. I can imagine the Nissan engineers designing it with easy access, but then Nissan corporate tells them "What are you thinking? Move that PCV valve to the back and under the manifold so our dealers can rack up a couple hundred of after warranty labor charges".

Seriously, couldn't put it in a more difficult location.

It was one of the reasons to always use the correct coolant -- the valve (thermostat) and cross over tube are expensive to fix if any issues.

Agreed. I previously spent considerable time looking for the PCV valve, as I like to replace it at 100K mls, I seem to recall that it is more accessible on the 3.3L engine. Why make the change for the worse? (On my two Toyotas, they are right up front, and are metal.)
