I recently bought a 2006 M35 with the Technology and journey package. This is my first post, so don't be too hash. I do not have the DVD player in the center armrest nor the rca's in the rear of the armrest. I know that the DVD player in the glove box is dvd based. I tried to put in a movie, but all i got was a disc error. Does anyone know if there is a work around? I am going to do the nav hack but was unsure about the dvd hack as well.

Or am I s.o.l. because I don't have the Adv. Tech. package?

I'm not 100% sure, but the 2006's didn't have a Adv. Tech package. Only thing that was available was Tech Package/Journey/Premium. The Tech Package required the Journey Package. The Tech Package comes with the DVD in the armrest (with or without a screen). This will play the DVD's. The DVD-based system in the glove box is only for the nav, I believe. Now if I'm right, then the chances are you don't have the Tech package. Sure fire way of telling is if you have the Intelligent Cruise or the speakers in the shoulder rest.

The Adv. Tech package was available on 2007+. I'm still new into M's I actually just bought mine last week, but I did a lot of research on it. Sorry for any mistakes..

Im pretty sure that I have the intelligent cruise, but no bose speakers in the shoulders of the seats. All I want to do is play a movie. Is there an extra input in the back of the cd player or something that I can get a harness for?

Sorry man, but you are indeed SOL from a factory setup standpoint. Doing the NAV hack will not give you DVD play either. It will only allow you to to perform Nav functions that are normally disabled when vehicle is in motion. The NAV in these cars are DVD-ROM based only.

what converter did you get? I haven't removed my dash yet, so i dont know exactly what inputs are on the back of the unit. Is there some kind of video input on the back that will require a adapter?

No it was not. If someone advertised as such they were confused. It happens though. Mine was advertised that way. But they didnt start adv tech until 07 models. You prolly have Tech with mobile entertainment add-on like mine does.
