Wat up on catalytic convertor?

Hey guys, I have a querstion. On my 2000 Max. I asked a friend who owns a muffler shop about replacing my cat on my Max and she said that it is made into the manifold and costs her 770.00 and that it would be about 500 to install. I have been looking online at parts places and I cant find one anymore than300.00. How much and hard r these sukkkkaaaasss to change( lov booker t)?I havent really looked but another friend said he has replaced them b4 and its not that hard also mech. told my uncle it would be 1000.00 to change cat on his 01 frontier. Please help me.

There are pre-cats in the exhaust manifolds, yes. The labor is pretty intensive on changing them as things are cramped and headers are hard to remove. You can't replace JUST the cats, either, as it's all one unit. So you need new headers.

I doubt you need new pre-cats, though.

The main cat is further back underneath about the middle of the car and is MUCH easier to replace and should be cheaper. That's probably where the price difference you're encountering is coming from.

What leads you to believe you need to replace your cat?

If you are going to spend that much. You may as well get mani' from a 95-98 max fed spec and the a y pipe. This will get rid of your precats . You will need to have a O2 bung welded also since you will have one more O2 than a 97.

I paid 800 dollars for my precat just bccause it became a piece.

What about all the sensors? I got 4 on my 2k. Wont it throw codes?

Actually I am not having a problem with my Max it is my uncles 01 Frontier that is having the problem. He says his truck is running fine but the ses light keeps coming on and he cant get it to go off, By the way his truck has 390k on it. I just think his mech. is tryin to rip him. Thank everyone for great info., I think when it gets time to replace on mine I will go with the suggestion of changing manifolds.
