This topic is a bit old, the cvt's can't handle the extra power as some parts are thermally sensitive and would fail at the higher temps produced by higher horsepower. the last i read which was a long time ago, the 2.5s cvt has certain components that arent as heat resistant as those found on the 3.5 trannys. Even at that, those who did turbop up their cvts undid them.
Personally, i would a turbo on it, the cvts like we have are still fairly new in the high horsepower applications nissan has put them in. CVT has been around for a long time but was generally found in lower hp apps like lawnmowers. The CVT uses a special metal band with transmission fluid that under high pressure is very sticky and when pressure is released turns to liquid again. As is, from what i have heard, the cooling systems on these b****es are huge since the cvt puts off so much heat.
A manual i could see the turbo working since its gear driven.
