I'm just in the process of working out bugs on my 92 ka-t. I just got the ECU tuned by a shop and I've run into some issues. I'm having trouble getting my wastegate to open. I'm running an externally gated 38mm Tial with a small red spring (5.8 psi). I can get the wastegate to flutter and crack a little bit in 1st gear, but through the rest of the gears the boost just wants to keep creeping. I've seen my boost gauge as high as 12lbs I'm only running 370cc injectors so this is really sketching me out. The vacume source for the wastegate is coming right off my brake booster. I'm running a Phat Ka-t manifold with a T3/T4 57 trim, I have a .48 AR on the turbine side. Is my wastegate faulty? We took it apart and seems you have to push really hard on the valve to move it.

sounds fatly to me.. if the wastegate is set at 5psi and your hitting 12psi then their is something wrong. all i can think is that your wastegate is bad.. maybe give er some lube??

Well I'm at a complete loss here guys. I just bought a brand new Tial Wastegate and installed it and it's still creeping like mad. Creeping might not even be the word for it since the wastegate refuses to open. This is so frustrating What's going on? could a bad exhaust leak cause creep? Should I switch my vacume source to the hot side of the intercooler piping?

It is possible that you have your WG in a place where there is some Venturi effect going on. That is to say that if you have gas under pressure going from a pipe of one diameter to a smaller diameter you will see a drop in pressure. It is even possible to produce a vacuum this way. You have to make sure that the location of the WG isn't in a place where it is actually being pulled closed.

I know this seems counter intuative but it is possible. I've heard of people having this problem before.

Well I fixed it. My vacumm block wasn't seeing any boost pressure because I put it after the check valve on the brake booster line . I ran a line from my throttlebody to my wastegate and all is well.

I was about to say, make sure you didn't put the hose behind the check valve .
