Wasp nest in Gas Filler cubbyhole

We have a 2010 Rogue and we have had wasps build a nest inside the lid to the gas filler cubbyhole! I have been trying to figure what I could do to block their entrance, which would keep them from building a nest. Very rude surprise to open gas filler and get bombed by wasps!
I have thought about trying to attach a piece of weather strip to block the finger hole, any of you have the same problem or have any thoughts on this? I would appreciate some suggestions! Thanks!

I've heard of certain spiders that are attracted to gasoline.
