I'm sure this topic has been brought up numerous times, but why not start a refresher for some newbies.

My Z is an '06 and a little bit over a year old since I purchased it new...

I have not waxed it yet, as I've used liquid car wash/wax mixture in the past...nothing special, just some stuff from Sam's Club -might not have been a good idea...

I do remember seeing people mention Meguiar's products in the past, so I'm leaning towards buying some of their products...

How often do you all wax your Z and when? I think once or twice a year is sufficient, right? Once before Summer and once before Winter?

Also, is clay bar necessary...or is that mainly for cars with paint that hasn't been kept up and washed -mainly on older or mistreated cars?

What does everyone use, and what are their methods for washing and/or waxing?

Help

I've always used waxing products with Carnauba (like Zymol) personally although there are a lot of great products out there. I would apply at least 3 full coats on each account, once in the spring, once in the middle of summer and once right before winter. Cleaning is just as important so don't skimp on that. In terms of clay, it is not for older or mistreated cars. Clay is great for getting the swirls out. If you've ever had a black car i am sure you noticed that no matter how hard you worked on avoiding swirls, they always appear. I've also used clay once on a serious sap spot which just ate through the white paint of the car. Anyway, make sure you understand the clay process because if you don't do it right you will just do more damage vs. good.

3 full coats? Damn. Can you not overwax a car?

I'll skip on the clay bar for a while...my paint job is still looking good, but it definitely needs to be waxed.

Can you buy Meguiars or Zymol anywhere other than online?

What specific Zymol wax do you use?

I noticed Meguiars has multiple waxes...

which is the best...liquid, paste, spray???

I've used zymol but not very happy with the price. Maguire's wax (gold class) is a bit cheaper and the result is the same as zymol. Maguire gold class soap is foamy as hell, that's why i like it. And i use microfiber wash mit and a california water blade to dry followed by a microfiber dry towel. I wax twice a year. 2 coats every time.

I just used Zaino on mine, and it was the best thing since sliced bread!! Yes it is expensive, but it is worth every dime! I have the Pearl White and it makes the pearl pop out like nothing else on the market can!

How many times you should wax your car greatly depends on what kind of weather you live in, how often you wash your car, how much you use your car and what you wash it with. Something like 2-12 times a year.

If applying more than one coat at a time you should wait 24 hours between coats.

Next wax I'm buying will be Dodojuice, partly because of their great website.

I use Meguires Gold Class Wax...the paste. I do two coats every time I wax and I dont wait 24 hours between the two coats of wax

..and I wax my car 3-4 times a year. I travel 55 miles each day and my paint takes a beating

my car is 1 year and a couple of months old...I plan on giving my car the clay bar treatment in two weeks. I have some marks that wont come out with regular waxing...the clay bar should do the trick
