Was the 350Z meant to be a convertible?

Some cars were designed to a rag top. Example, S2000 and Miata. Some convertibles are chop tops like Toyota Solara.

Was the 350Z a chop top or did Nissan planned for a convertible version from the start?

Thinking about a used 350Z convertible.

They chopped it, however the 370Z was designed from the start with the convertible design in mind.
